Mark Dyson

Mark Dyson is a fellow with the Energy & Resources Team. At RMI, Mark is working to develop a dynamic computer model to simulate the operation of the electric utility of the future, as well as conducting research into the present-day and future potential of energy efficiency and advanced energy solutions technology.

RMI Projects

Next Generation Utility - Mark is working on developing a regional-scale, dynamic computer model to show how the electric utility of the future might operate. By simulating the interactions of large-scale renewable energy penetration, efficiency, distributed generation, and demand response with smart-grid technologies, plug-in vehicles, and energy storage, the model will demonstrate the cost-effectiveness, security, and reliability of this new, low-carbon electricity system.

Background

Before joining RMI, Mark worked as a geophysics researcher in the earth science departments of Harvard University and Carleton College, and has presented his work at several scientific conferences around the United States. In addition, his undergraduate thesis work in computer science involved developing online distribution and visualization services for real-time and historic wind power data in Minnesota.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Computer Science & Geology, Carleton College, 2007
